The flight to Colombo stopped off in Singapore, 3 hours to Singapore and 3 hours to Colombo. This was the morst tiring leg of the journey. It began to feel like all we did was eat, sleep, eat, and watch TV. They showed The Pink Panther -- it's such a funny movie =)
The plane arrived monday night at 8:15pm in Colombo. Since two years ago, they've built a new terminal to the airport, so we could step off the plane into the airport instead of getting on a bus from the plane to the airport. See the nice new shiny floor? They also had a large white budha statue.
We waited for our luggage to come off the luggage belt. The three bags we check in from Hong Kong arrived...but we waited and waited for the other 7 pieces and nothing ever came. The airline agents searched on the computer for our stuff and found 4 in San Francisco but the other three couldn't be found. It looked like the computer system that went down in San Francisco caused our luggage to be left behind, so Cathay gave us some rupees to buy clothing and toiletries until our luggage could be delivered.
We went out of the airport and looked for Fernando, our driver. He remembers us all from when we were babies =)
Around the airport we saw a lot of soldiers and police checkpoints. It was nice to see that Sri Lankans still don't stay in their lanes while driving.
We got to 59 Pamankade Ln Colombo 6 at around 10:30, said hi to my grandparents, and settled in. I went to the bathroom and was greeted by a nice fat red cockroach, haha. We thought that we were all going to squish into one room but Jayawardene (my grandpa's caretaker) had cleared the second room for us and he would sleep in the living room. That would make three per bed which made us very glad -- no one would have to sleep on the floor with the massive spider that we saw!
