Viaje realizado en Febrero del 2005 Aracena está en el núcleo central y más importante de la Sierra de Huelva. Está situado en la Sierra Alta, a 106 Km de la capital. Sus habitantes se denominan Arundenses. Principal actividad productiva: Olivos, viñedos y frutales. Ganado porcino. Almazaras, charcutería y tenerías. Aracena se encuentra asentada en la sierra del mismo nombre, un paraje agreste y escarpado que encierra no pocos tesoros. Historia La zona de Aracena ha estado habitada desde épocas antiquísimas. Del III milenio a.C. hay restos de talleres líticos en la Cueva de la Umbría. De mediados del II milenio encontramos restos en el poblado del Castañuelo, y también de la cultura céltica que se asientan en la zona en el siglo V a.C.. Por los vestigios hallados sabemos que se dedicaban, además de a labores agrícolas, a la metalurgia. En el siglo I es cuando se asientan los romanos para la explotación de las minas de la zona. Utilizaron un sistema de pequeños núcleos agropecuarios que sustentaban el asentamiento y que serían, probablemente el origen de Aracena y de varias de las poblaciones de la zona. De la dominación musulmana, en que dependió de Niebla y de Sevilla, apenas quedan restos. A finales del siglo XV, es Aracena la entidad más poblada de la provincia de Huelva.

While taking the camera outside to photograph the sunset (or lack thereof) last night, I happened to feel the sting of a mosquito. Cue much swelling (but not very much itchiness), as I'm mildly allergic. To put the size into context, that is the top of my arm, and I'd call that a small bite by my standards.

Getting the model in the tree was a challenge, and I ended up lowering her in using the tow rope from my car. Although the site was in the middle of nowhere, just after she handed me her last article of clothing, a mass of farm laborers happened to wander by!

Today was the All-Star game. It was a long day because we got there around 3:30 for pre-game festivities and didn't get home until about 8:30. Cole's team didn't win, but Cole was a good sport and we're so proud of him! Cole's dad told me that there were some scouts (club soccer) there that want to recruit Cole. Way to go, Cole!
